From September 2019, Brightspace will be AUAS’s new learning management system. It will replace the course components on MyAUAS. Some at AUAS have already been working with Brightspace since September 2018. As of September 2019, all lecturers and students will work with the new system. Alongside all our other education tools such as the plagiarism scanner and the peer feedback tool, it comprises our digital learning environment.
In May 2018, AUAS chose Brightspace as the new digital hub, through which lecturers and students can access all course pages. The Brightspace environment gives lecturers a much greater range of options to design theircourse pages and greater functionality to enable educational innovation. Brightspace is also extremely user-friendly as the course pages are easy to design and materials can be added with minimal effort.
Brightspace can be accessed via dlo.mijnhva.nl and the login process is the same as with SURFconext. Once you have logged in to Brightspace, you can change your profile settings in any way you wish, for example, you can choose which courses you wish to see by pinning them to your home screen and you can specify your accessibility and notification preferences. More information on this matter can be found in the Brightspace Self-Paced Course. This course can be found in Brightspace, and as an AUAS staff member, you will have automatic access to it.
Why do we replace Studiedelen for Brightspace?
Educational innovation and blended learning are highly valued at the HvA. However, the current learning environment, Studiedelen (Sharepoint), is limited in possibilities and therefore inhibits our ambitions. The HvA therefore started in 2016 with the search for a new learning environment, which does offer the tools, possibilities and freedoms to facilitate educational innovation and the flexibilisation of education.
Are there more institutions in the Netherlands that use Brightspace?
Yes, Brightspace has been used by TU Delft since the 2017/2018 academic year. In addition, Leiden University and Radboud University have also opted for Brightspace as their new Learning Management System. Not all tenders have been completed. Other universities and colleges can also opt for Brightspace.
Does all the learning material automatically move from Studiedelen to Brightspace?
No. We can however assist to move content from Studiedelen to Brightspace manually. A benefit of that approach is that we can guarantee that the content is moved to the right place in the new digital environment. Teachers can do it on their own, but it’s always possible to call for assistance.
Where can I go with questions or support?
For questions and support you can contact your Blended Learning Consultant of your cluster. In addition, extra support is provided from the project during the implementation. This support can be reached via firstname.lastname@example.org.
Will my learning material remain available on Studiedelen?
Yes. The study material from previous years is archived and available at all times. We do recommend that you also archive all your study material on the V-drive.
Does Brightspace work with any browser such as Internet Explorer?
No. Internet Explorer is an outdated Internet browser from Microsoft and no longer meets the latest security requirements. Microsoft has since stopped further developing this internet browser and also no longer provides support and updates. Brightspace is therefore not made compatible with Internet Explorer. Brightspace works well with:
- Microsoft Edge
- Mozilla Firefox
- Google Chrome (recommended)
- Apple Safari
What is the planning for the introduction of Brightspace?
Brightspace is now live. Since June 2018 teachers can organize their courses in Brightspace and since September 2018 all first-year students have been working in Brightspace. From September 2019 the entire AUAS will work in Brightspace. In the coming months, module coordinators and teachers will be trained who have not yet worked with Brightspace.
